May 28, 2013: Tom Mikkelsen: Dayton Adventure 2013

The Dayton Hamvention is an annual amateur radio convention, or hamfest, considered to be the largest in North America, held each May at the Hara Arena in Trotwood, near Dayton, Ohio, which has been the venue since 1964. Earlier Hamventions date back to 1952. The Hamvention offers forums, exhibits, and flea markets. Just under 25,000 visitors attended last year.

Tom Mikkelsen, our 2013 club president, has been to the Dayton Hamvention on a number of occasions over the years, and he'll be there again this year. The 2013 Hamvention is May 17-19, so Tom's presentation to the club will be a first-hand report less than 10 days after the event. Many amateur radio operators dream of making it to the Dayton Hamvention, and this month Tom gives us all a glimpse into what it's like and what happens there.
