September 26, 2023: Michael Zolna KD6RFJ: An overview of the AllStar system

PLEASE NOTE: Our monthly general meeting is again IN-PERSON, as well as webcast on the internet. See the notes at the top of this page for details.

AllStarLink is a network of amateur radio repeaters, remote base stations, and hot spots accessible to each other via VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol). AllStarLink runs on a dedicated computer, such as the Raspberry Pi or a PC. It's primary use is as a dedicated computer node wired to your repeater or radio. You can think of AllStar as an analog VOIP similar to EchoLlink.

Mike Zolna, KD6RFJ is currently an Electrical Engineering Department Leader for Raytheon where he oversees over 125 engineers on subsystem development in Tucson Arizona.  Mike was first licensed as an Amateur Radio Operator in 1993 and upgraded to General and Extra in 2020. Mike usually operates local VHF/UHF repeaters and his local DMR & AllStar hotspots. Mike is also a volunteer member of the Pima County Office of Emergency Management and volunteers for several local events.
