August 22, 2023: Michael Hart KC6MEH: On-foot T-hunting

PLEASE NOTE: Because our in-person meeting location is unavailable, this presentation will be webcast on the internet. See the IMPORTANT NOTE at the top of this page.

In this talk, Michael Hart, KC6MEH, tells us about his interest in on-foot transmitter hunting, or T-hunting, where participants use radio direction finding techniques to locate one or more radio transmitters hidden within a designated search area.

Michael received his Technician license in 2016, followed by his General license a year later. He caught the direction finding “bug"”when studying with the Goodkins. He remembers doing CB radio direction finding with his friends back in the 1980s and wanted to get back into it. But what really caught his interest was the on-foot hunt. So he hooked up with the Fullerton Amateur Radio Club, which regularly hosts on-foot hunts in parks from Santa Barbara to San Diego, in both the 2-meter and 80-meter bands. He likes to call it “Hiking with a Mission” and “The Most Exercise You'll Get with your Radio.”
