September 22, 2020: Doug Clark WA6IFY: 2m tape measure Yagi antenna
PLEASE NOTE: Because our meeting location is unavailable due to the coronavirus situation, this presentation will be webcast on the internet. See the IMPORTANT NOTE at the top of this page.
Our September 2020 speaker will be PRC member Doug Clark, WA6IFY, who will talk about his recent build of a portable two-meter “tape measure” Yagi antenna. As he shows how it was built, he’ll explain what a “Yagi” is. Performance of the finished antenna will be compared to a rubber duckie, and parameters such as gain, SWR, front-to-back ratio, and antenna pattern will also be discussed. Along the way, you’ll learn how to install several connector types on coax cable.
First licensed as WN6IFY in the mid-seventies, Doug was active on HF CW using vacuum tube “boat anchor” gear. He soon upgraded to General class, but ham radio took a back seat to other pursuits during his high school and college years. After discovering the convenience of solid-state VHF/UHF gear, he became active again, mainly using ham radio to stay in touch on backcountry travels with his wife Monica, KD6KTP. With their children grown and out of the house, he found time to upgrade to Extra and get involved with PRC (Field Day), public service (AC100), and emcom (ALERT and ARESLAX).
