May 23, 2017: Gurbux Singh W6BUX: Amateur radio in Burma

Gurbux Singh grew up in Rangoon, Burma, which is now known as Yangon, Myanmar, and has first hand experience living under a dictatorship and how amateur radio was summarily banned in 1968. He left Burma in 1973 and has made the USA his home for the past 44 years. He was the second operator for his father’s station XZ2KN from 1955 and now holds the call W6BUX. He will be talking about his experiences and will answer any questions put to him. It took a lot of cajoling from the club’s vice-president Eric to get Gurbux to agree to give a talk as it is not a subject about which he freely volunteers to share memories, some of which are harsh and painful.
