October 22, 2024: Doug Millar K6JEY: Test equipment for hams, on a budget
PLEASE NOTE: Because of unforseen circumstances at Kaiser Permanente, our October 2024 club meeting will be ZOOM only. Our usual meeting space is not available. The ZOOM link will be provided Sunday via groups.io email. Anyone interested is welcome to join the group - see details on our Group page (click here).
Here is Doug´s description of the history and interests behind his subject of Test Equipment for Hams:
I was licensed in 1957 as a teenager. I have always been interested in VHF and microwaves. In high school I converted an IFF set to a 23cm transceiver and used a 5 gallon lard can as an antenna. Currently the highest band I am on is 122GHz. I wrote the 26th chapter of the ARRL Handbook on Test Equipment and Measurement (1995-2014) as a result of my interest in metrology. I am currently the Technical Coordinator for the Orange Section of the ARRL.
I have an amateur lab at home and am able to calibrate volts, resistance, frequency and RF power over a wide range with very good precision.
Professionally I have been a teacher most of my life and most recently was a Student Teacher Supervisor for the University of Phoenix.
