July 23, 2024: Bill Shanney W6QR: End fed half wave dipoles
PLEASE NOTE: Our monthly general meeting is IN-PERSON, as well as webcast on the internet. See the notes at the top of this page for details.
Bill Shanney’s talk, captured on the TRW website, was originally given in 2022. In a very direct and interesting presentation, Bill takes us from the “need to communicate” through to fundamental requirements, to basic wire antenna considerations and patterns, and then provides a deep dive into the pratical aspects of a working end fed antenna.
This talk gives us both theoretical and practical information, including construction, along with the results Bill got with his antennas. Bill includes practical operating band performance information, with generic propagation information from full gallon rigs down to a QRP station.
Bill writes: “My first call was WV2RDG in NJ. I became WA2RDG when I got my general in 1961. I operate 99.5% CW on 160-6M. After a long period of inactivity (career and family), I upgraded to extra class in 1988 and became very active. That is also the year that I joined the TRW ARC. I have a BSEE from NJ Institute of Technology and worked for 45 years in RF and microwave design. I retired from Northrop Grumman/TRW in 2007 after 31 years with the company.”
This talk has something for everyone. It will be a virtual presentation.
