June 25, 2024: Terry Dennison K9TAD: Sunspots
PLEASE NOTE: Our monthly general meeting is IN-PERSON, as well as webcast on the internet. See the notes at the top of this page for details.
Have you ever wondered about how to interpret and use the solar weather charts, such as those presented on the QRZ website? Terry Dennison is the ideal person for answering this! His talk is a broad presentation on sun-based phenomena, what they are, why they occur, what impacts they have on ham radio, together with general technology, understanding solar statistics, and the impact of high/extreme levels of solar activity.
Terry Dennison K9TAD started his journey toward amateur radio at age 8 when he constructed a crystal radio set using a bent safety pin, a piece of pencil lead, and a Gillette Blue razor blade. He obtained his Technician license in 2007 and by 2010 was an Extra Class licensee. In addition to his ham radio interests, Terry is a licensed private pilot — single and multiple engine — and instrument rated. He has numerous home computers contributing scientific computational power to UC Berkeley´s BOINC project (see boinc.berkeley.edu). His ham radio interests include operating FT8 and FT4 on 40, 20, 15, and 10 meters. He operates on 6 meters and 70 cm to work ham satellites and to communicate on local repeaters.
