July 24, 2012: Braddock Gaskill: The AMSAT Fox-1 satellite

For over 50 years American radio amateurs have been building and flying    ham satellites. This has been the mission of the Radio Amateur Satellite Corporation, or AMSAT, since the late 1960s. The next AMSAT satellite, Fox-1, will contain an FM transponder and a university experiment. It will herald in a new fleet of small AMSAT satellites that will provide communications to ham operators all over the world for the next decade. The tiny four inch cube satellite is due to launch in 2013. Braddock Gaskill has been a volunteer working on Fox-1 for the past year. He will provide an overview of the satellite, and insight into the team of ham volunteers who are designing and building it.
